A REGIONAL CUISINE RESTAURANT SET IN A BEAUTIFUL SCENERY
A long-lasting tradition passed down through generations, our passion and love, as well as delicious dishes prepared according to our own secret recipes make our restaurant stand out in the memory of our guests. In 2008 the building was completely refurbished and upgraded in order to satisfy the growing demand for our services. Furnished in the traditional style of Polish highlands, with its carefully selected decorations and hand-painted flowers, the interior is met with delight and praise. Moreover, the restaurant remains in perfect harmony with the surrounding scenery. Our guests can sit down and enjoy the rustle of leaves, fresh mountain air and soothing caresses of the wind. All of the above, combined with lively sounds of regional folk music, creates a perfect atmosphere, a place where time stands still and wonderful moments can be savoured over a glass of homemade nalewka and a plateful of regional food.
Cichy Kącik offers comfortable seating for 130 guests, a spacious parking lot for buses and cars, as well as a roofed garden surrounded by beautiful flowers, which can accommodate one hundred people. You will be served and entertained by friendly and professional staff dressed in authentic regional wear. Our cooks will go the extra mile to prepare dishes that taste like home. Moreover, we offer a full-service venue for weddings, family get-togethers, business meetings etc., and in summer we provide unique entertainment, with live music and joyful revelry.
Thanks to the unwavering devotion and the joint effort on the part of the current owners and staff, Cichy Kącik was awarded the title of Poland’s best regional cuisine restaurant for 4 consecutive years in the POLAND 100 BEST RESTAURANTS project. This prestigious project is the only one in our country of such large scope, which makes us even happier to receive the distinction. In 2013 Cichy Kącik received the title of the best regional cuisine restaurant in Małopolska and a certificate of authenticity. The year 2015 marks another succes: we received the Grand Award and the 5-Year Award in the POLAND 100 BEST RESTAURANTS contest. We see all the distinstions as tokens of appreciation and trust bestowed on us by both our guests and the jury. We believe our restaurant can meet any customer’s expectations. After all, nothing is more important to us than smiles of satisfaction on our guests’ faces.
RESTAURANT’S HISTORY
-
A SMALL WOODEN BUILDING
Its sole owner and constructor: Mr. Walenty Rechowicz. He inherited the unfinished work of his parents and completed the construction. Before it was even finished, the owner had put some benches and tables out on the lawn, which the local residents had gladly put to use.
-
UNDER LUCJAN AND ANNA SMODRZEWSKI’S CARE
The restaurant was prosperous and generated good profit. Poland’s governing party looked disfavourably on such capitalist endeavour. As a result, ‘Cichy Kącik’ was communised and incorportated into Krynica’s state-run gastronomic units.
-
RENAISSANCE
The attempt at communization had turned out to be a failure, and Mr. Smodrzewski gained Krynica-Zdrój’s Mayor’s permission to reclaim the restaurant. After long years of financial losses, the restaurant once again bustled with life and activity. Mrs. Smodrzewski cooked and Mr. Smodrzewski served the food and took care of provisions. Sometimes, he dabbled in the kitchen – reportedly, his bigos was a work of art.
-
MUSICAL AFTERNOONS
Aleksander ‘Lutek’ Rojna, also known as ‘Dad’, begins his adventure with ‘Cichy Kącik’. He was the restaurant’s musician for almost 15 years. In his time, there was a dance party at the restaurant every day between 8:00 PM and midnight. After the party, the guests were invited to put in their own requests and to take part in contests and games. Each year, the restaurant grew in popularity.
-
Danuta Rechowicz
Daughter of the owners, Ms. Danuta, discovered that she was to inherit the restaurant by accident. ‘Cichy Kącik’ was kept secret from her, as the communist regime constituted a hostile environment for private business. In later years, she sometimes visited the restaurant, which she rented first to Mr. Banaś, and then to Ms. Maria, his right hand.
-
Cichy Kącik dzisiaj
The time had come to revive Cichy Kącik and to restore it to its former glory. The restaurant’s current owners, Mr. Dariusz and his wife Marzena, have put their whole hearts and all their effort into the rebirth. The building’s total renovation was costly and time-consuming, but the reopening turned out to be a great success. Each year, Cichy Kącik is garnering praise for its many achievements, as evidenced by multiple awards, distinctions and certificates, but most of all, by a large number of satisfied customers.

80 YEARS OF CICHY KĄCIK
